Not Sure about the Size of Your Heating System?

Tips on How to Choose the Best Heating & Air Conditioning Systems

Whether you are looking for a heating & air conditioning system for your home or workplace, there are a few things you need to think about before settling on any system. Traditionally, a unit has to be energy efficient, sufficiently powerful to maintain a comfortable atmosphere and within your budget.

There are several different kinds of heating & air conditioning systems available today. Some use natural gas and electricity to work. These hybrids work using electricity; however, the heating parts and components will use gas in order to heat up the air before it is distributed through a room. Sensors trigger this function when the inside temperature falls below the temperature setting on the thermostat controls. Some say this system is more energy efficient; however, an electrical system is just as efficient. It all depends on the climate and how big the space is.

Other features need to be considered also. There are ductless air conditioning, which work quite well within some residential and commercial settings. A split air system can also be an excellent option. Being aware of what the different options are and how each works makes it easier to eliminate some of the options.

In addition to the overall design and energy efficiency, it is important to choose a system which will heat and cool a space without having to place too much stress on the equipment. Attempting to save a few dollars buying a system which is not big enough will end up proving costly in the long run. A system needs to work harder in order to keep a space comfortable, which means more wear and tear on the components, not to mention using excessive energy.

Want to Know Some Basic Tips for Your Furnace?

Furnace Repair and Troubleshooting Tips

Even though most air furnaces are generally very reliable, they will, on occasion, need some type of furnace repair. When they do break down, fixing them quickly is critical. With some basic DIY experience and the right guidance, you should be able to troubleshoot and repair various problems yourself.

At least once every year, clean out the space around your furnace’s blower. When possible, remove the fan unit and make sure to thoroughly clean every fan blade using a toothbrush, and vacuum by using your brush attachment. Keep an eye out for the oil ports on the motor, these are generally found close to the motor shaft. If the furnace’s motor have these, use two or three drops of motor oil in every port, you may have to take the cover place off to do this. Many of today’s motors don’t need this; however, motors that have oil ports must be lubricated at least once every year.

If you think you have a furnace gas leak, this must be dealt with immediately! If you ever smell gas in your home or anywhere near your furnace, never use anything such as matches or switch on or off switches. If the odor is strong, leave your home immediately, and make sure you leave the door open. Switch the gas off at the supply valve, this is generally found by your gas meter, rotate the valve using an adjustable wrench to ensure the valve’s stem is perpendicular to your inlet pipe. Then, contact your gas supplier and the fire department from a safe distance from your home. Never return to your home until you are told it is safe to do so.

Furnaces that have a pilot light and won’t stay lit, this could be due to a loose or faulty thermocouple, the pilot orifice is clogged, or the flame is set too low. Make sure you switch the gas off first. Plus, switch off the switch or circuit breaker which operates the furnace. Then, push the wire into the orifice where the flame burns, this should remove any debris.
